A typical hindi movie revolves around human behaviour and relationships. Yeh Faasle by Omprakash Mittal portrays the same things, but through a dramatic “non-conventional type” series of events. The movie has suspense, romance, and an entanglement of relationships in a very novel manner. This is a story about Devinder Devilal Dua (Anupam Kher) who has a past that his daughter Arunima Dua (Tena Desae) needs to unearth.
The movie begins with the joyous reunion of the father and daughter after several years. Anupam Kher depicts a new age father, who is financially supporting his daughter’s friend’s engagement party, whose brother has feelings for her. This is from where the love story starts. But the focus of Yeh Faasle is not about the “faasle” (distance) in a love story but the fast approaching distance between the father and daughter.
Arunima one day finds her mother’s diary and this is from where the actual story of the movie starts. After going through the diary, she becomes doubtful about the sanctity of her father and tries to investigate the truth about her mother’s death, which she knew was caused by a car accident. The diary opens up new questions for her as she finds out that her parents weren’t happy together. Her doubts makes her drag her father to the court. For the sake of not adding spoilers to this review, I would rather not reveal the outcome of the case. It is an engrossing movie, which you won’t regret watching.
Performance wise, Kher was the perfect choice of his character. Tena Desae successfully depicts the anxiety and disbelief needed for her role. In all, Yeh Faasle is a good mix of emotion, suspense and drama.
